MailSite Mail Lists
How they work

By using a mail list, you can broadcast a message to all members of the list with a single e-mail address. This is useful in a number of scenarios such as broadcasting a newsletter to a subscription list, or hosting an e-mail based discussion forum. MailSite includes an integrated mail list processor which provides this capability.

Types of mail lists
  • Registry Lists
List membership is stored in the registry. You can modify members through the console or by subscribing and unsubscribing.
  • SQL Lists
List membership is stored in the SQL Server database. You can modify members through the console or by subscribing and unsubscribing.
  • NT Lists
List membership is derived from an NT Group. This type of list is useful for sending mail to all users of a particular NT Group in your domain.
  • Text File Lists
List membership is stored in a text file. You can modify members through the console, by subscribing and unsubscribing, or by editing the text file directly.
  • Database Lists
List membership is stored in a table or view in an ODBC database. You maintain list membership with your database program outside of MailSite. This list type is ideal if you want to create a web-based tool for subscribing and unsubscribing users from lists.
  • Server Lists
List membership is derived from selected mailboxes on the server itself. This type of list is useful for broadcasting messages to all users on your server, all users in a particular domain, or all users of a particular privilege level. Filters also allow you to exclude certain mailboxes from this list.

Content Moderation

Mail List Archiving

When enabled, mail list moderators must approve or reject messages sent to a mail list. Incoming messages will be placed into a pending directory while they wait for a moderator to approve, reject, or discard the message.

Messages can be archived in HTML format so they can be viewed in a web browser. When viewing a mail list archive, users can sort messages by sender, subject, date, or message thread.
