Synopsis:
The msimportexort utility allows you to back up your MailSite settings and mail accounts in the form of an xml file. This tool allows you to backup all or specific accounts/domains. It can be useful is you need to move specific domains/mailboxes from one MailSite install to another.
This utility can be used in MailSite SE, LE & SP.
Note: To obtain a full backup of the Database (to include the data and database schema), you should backup the MailSite database via SQL Server. A database backup is more through than using msimportexport.
More Information:
Using msimportexport in SE & LE
Msimortexport will back up all your Mailsite settings/mailboxes. This can be used to migrate to a new server, or it can be used
to create a backup for your mail server. Please note that for a complete back up, you need to ensure you create copies of the SPOOL
and BOX directories separately.
You can also use the MSBACK feature to achieve similar results.
To create a msimportexport dump file use the following command:
msimportexport -export mybackup.xml -server -domains -mailboxes -maillists
To restore a msimportexport dump file use the following command:
msimportexport -import mybackup.xml -server -domains -mailboxes -maillists
Using msimportexport in SP
Msimportexport will also back up your MailSite database data within MailSite SP to a xml file. The command is the same as that for MailSite SE/LE.
When restoring an msimportexport file for SP, you need to ensure you delete any current entries within your Database. If you run
the -import command ontop of your current configuration, then for each duplicated mailbox an addition mailbox will be created. This
can have implications on your license count. Therefore you should always ensure you are using a new or empty database when restoring
your configuration.
