The MailShell Anti Spam Filter menu in the MailSite console has options for:
-Enable Network Checking
-Enable RBL Checking
The MailShell Anti Spam Engine required a separate license subscription. Please contact your sales rep or email sales@rockliffe.com for more information.
The options are explained below:
Enable Network Checking
If you select this option, MailSite will contact the MailShell servers to obtain a spam score result rather then using a local set of definitions. This can help with the accuracy of scoring at the expense of performance. Carrying out the network checking across HTTP rather than using the local files can be slow depending upon how busy your server and network are at that time. MailSite checks every 5 minutes for the latest definitions, so in the worst case scenario your server will only be 5 minutes out of sync with the MailShell production servers. It is generally recommended NOT to select this option on busy servers.
Enable RBL Checking
If you select this option, MailSite will use the IP address located in a message header and check this against the defined RBL servers that are within the spamcatcher.conf file. This file can be found within this location '..\MailSite\Mailshell\Master'. It uses this result to help aggregate the score. Non-routable IP addresses are not queried e.g 10.x.x.x, 127.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x.The list of RBL servers cannot be manually changed by customers at this time.
It is generally recommended that this option is selected.
